I bought a 2TB SATA SSD to supplement that fast SN850, and ended up moving nearly every game over to it. The changes in performance for the games I play were simply non-quantifiable. I felt I got way more out of the performance of the drives running the OS and various VM's on it, then games.
Your system rn is good, i would save most of your budget and buy a sata ssd if you currently only have an nvme. You could save most of it, spend a bit on storage, and maybe buy some games
NVMe is easier and performs way better, but a SATA SSD is still way, way better than an HDD so either will be a decent upgrade considering that and yeah it is usually cheaper than a comparable NVMe.
If you are going for a SATA SSD, the only real thing you need to be sure of is that your PSU has the cables for power, and you need a SATA cable to connect to the motherboard.

So to stay on AM4 and DDR4, your setup looks decent. You will need some storage to begin with, and I would at least reccomend a SATA SSD, but I recommend a M2 NVMe.
