Pros

  • I have my Sanken Cos-11D that actually sound really good on the PR-2.
  • Really for someone at my budget / level of production it’s hard to do much better with sound quality than a 416 or Oktava and Cos-11D lavaliers.
  • And sound with cos11d is great.
  • I’m pretty sure you can rent Sanken COS-11d mics (industry standard) for $20 a day on Sharegrid
  • I'm pretty set on getting a couple of Sanken cos-11d mics with Bumblebee concealers.

Cons

  • we ended up internal recording and using a cos 11 with a condom stretched over the head of the mic. Problem really was getting a decent position on the wetsuit which ended up being a little zipped down from the neck so I could tuck it to...
  • I have 5 or 6 that have started sloughing rubber off the cable.
  • The casing on the cable has begun to fall apart, but the mic is still perfect so I’d rather not just toss it.

we ended up internal recording and using a cos 11 with a condom stretched over the head of the mic. Problem really was getting a decent position on the wetsuit which ended up being a little zipped down from the neck so I could tuck it to the side. Still a bit muffled in the end

The Sanken Cos-11D is the industry standard lav for great sound but they’re pricey for a videographer.

If you’re doing mostly interviews and doc style, Sanken is the move. They’re much more durable, which is better when miking non-actors and working on sets where you have don’t have as much control.
