Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • I usually use Wisycom and Sanken or DPA Lavs.
  • Sanken has been much easier to work with when my cs3 needed service
  • either use their better mics like the MKE-2 or even better a sanken or DPA one.
  • But I think it’s the W.Lav Pro which comes together with the Deity Theos system m, or solo for around 100$ but the Sanken is way better and also more 3x the price, but also more durable.

Cons

  • But yes they have a nice sound much different than the Sankei, which have been the standard for at least 20 years.
  • If you decide to send in the one to get a cable replacement, it will never be the same as the original in terms of durability. I had a few that I had the cables replaced they worked good for a while, but started to come apart pretty quic...
  • Sennheiser and Sanker have quite expensive options (which I discover).
  • Then I have my Sanken in a suspension mount that I can throw a foam on a Bubblebee Spacer, depending on how much breeze there is.
  • Any specifics on models like DPA or Sanken that aren't overkill for low-budget stuff.

If you decide to send in the one to get a cable replacement, it will never be the same as the original in terms of durability. I had a few that I had the cables replaced they worked good for a while, but started to come apart pretty quick. Other mixers, I have talked to have said they had the same issue with cable replacements for the Sankens.

I did an NBC show and used this for a specific actor who had a habit of yanking off his mic. No more Sanken for him 🤣.
