AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Ryzen 5 2600x is increasingly viewed as a legacy component that is showing its age in modern computing environments. While it remains a functional and extremely affordable option for older titles or basic tasks, it is frequently cited as a performance bottleneck in CPU-intensive games and when paired with mid-to-high-end GPUs from more recent generations.
Pros
- Extremely low secondhand cost, with reports of units found for 20€ or less
- Reliable longevity, with some users reporting stable performance after five to six years of use
- Sufficient for less demanding or older titles like WoW Retail
- Adequate performance when paired with older or entry-level GPUs like the GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 3060
Cons
- Significant performance bottleneck for modern, CPU-intensive games such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and BeamNG
- Struggles to maintain anticipated frame rates in newer releases
- Limits the potential of more powerful GPUs like the RTX 3070
Caveats
- Performance varies significantly by title; while some games run 'fine,' others are unplayable or suffer from low frame rates
- Often mentioned as a primary candidate for replacement in upgrade discussions
Best for
- Ultra-budget secondhand builds
- Light gaming or older titles
- Users looking for a temporary filler CPU for very little money
Avoid if
- Playing modern, CPU-heavy games
- Pairing with a high-end modern graphics card
- Building a system intended for long-term future-proofing

Cpu intensive game, the 2600x is not enough
Well its a pc for little money but it is ancient...
Currnetly im using a Ryzen 5 2600x and its not getting the anticipated frames for the games I am playing so I plan on upgrading it in about a month.
Upgrade to Ryzen 5 5600 or 5700X.
Note how, in most cases, there's very little difference between the 2600x and the 5600x, despite the latter being far superior. You don't really see a tangible difference until you get to the 3070, because those chips were more than powerful enough to push the 5700xt (and the 3060 and 1080ti) to their limits.
