Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Qatar Airways is recognized for high-quality onboard service and meal selection, particularly on routes to India via Doha. However, recent passenger experiences are frequently marred by what users describe as notoriously poor customer service and rigid handling of flight disruptions. While the airline is generally trusted to honor its contractual obligations, travelers report significant frustration with rebooking limitations and a lack of support during major delays or cancellations.

Pros

  • High-quality onboard meals and extensive selection compared to competitors.
  • Strong route coverage and service quality for travel to India via Doha.
  • Good value for award travel transfers (Avios).
  • Generally reliable in honoring contractual flight obligations.

Cons

  • Customer service is frequently described as unresponsive or unhelpful.
  • Rigid booking rules: canceling one leg of a trip typically cancels the entire itinerary.
  • Limited rebooking options during major disruptions, sometimes offering only refunds instead of alternative flights.
  • Reports of inadequate compensation or support (e.g., lack of sleep/shower facilities) during long delays.

Caveats

  • Airlines may not provide compensation or reimbursement for costs incurred during 'force majeure' events such as regional conflict.
  • Award seat availability can be inconsistent and difficult to find for specific dates.
  • Vouchers offered for significant delays are sometimes viewed as 'insulting' relative to the disruption caused.

Best for

  • Travelers prioritizing onboard amenities and food quality.
  • Passengers flying to India or through Doha.
  • Users with Avios points looking for high-value redemptions.

Avoid if

  • You require highly responsive and flexible customer support.
  • You need an airline with a lenient policy for partial itinerary changes.
  • You are traveling through regions where 'force majeure' events might frequently disrupt schedules.

What redditors said (10 of 94)

You can certainly trust that Qatar will honor the contractual obligations to you, but whether their flights resume on March 11th is not up to them.

My first time traveling with Qatar airline. I have always been traveling with Swiss airline with no exception. First time, 6 hours delayed on A380 from 2am to 9am. I am stuck in the airport with no sleep. no where to shower. My mistake for being a cheapstake and chose this airline.

I bought my ticket from Finnair, and I flew from Stockholm to Doha. Qatar Airways is dealing with the compensation since I was told to contact them for compensation based on my arrival country. This was in January.

No. The flight is booked as one entity, if you cancel the first leg, it all will be canceled

Qatar Airways via DOH, Emirates via DXB, or Etihad via AUH are generally the best options to India with the most coverage and best service.
