PBW (Powdered Brewery Wash)

Pros
- Twice a year I take apart all the lines, taps, couplers and clean them with PBW.
- I use a spare keg with PBW. pressurize like normal, flow through tap.
- I removed the lines, disassembled the QD Picnic valve dispensing end and washed in hot PBW and water, then StarSan and let everything dry before assembly.
- My fermenter and keg went through my usual cleaning and sanitizing routine of PBW and Star San.
- Keep PBW on hand for stuck on gunk.
Cons
- I’ve cleaned them with PBW, but it’s certainly possible there’s some buildup in the dip tube that I can’t see.
- Then I switched to hot water with PBW and it got super nasty again. I think I've changed out the water, Oxi, and PBW at least 3-4 times each, so in the neighborhood of 9-12 flushes, with a combination of forwards and backwards flushing.
- Yeah, I quit buying PBW and use OxyClean these days.

I have been doing this for years and never had a problem other than some deposits forming from time to time, which can be removed with a 20 minute PBW soak.
I usually use somewhat hot water and PBW to clean them by splashing it around multiple times, then do a Star San rinse before use.
Disassemble all the popits, ball lock connectors and soak everything in PBW or oxyclean free for a few hours. Run pbw through the dip tube. Rinse well. I do this with my 5 gal kegs when I'm switching from anything to water. Never had an issue
