AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Wild Turkey 101 is widely considered a staple "daily driver" bourbon, praised for its high proof and exceptional value. It is frequently cited as a benchmark for the category, offering a robust flavor profile that holds up well in cocktails while remaining approachable enough for neat sipping.
Pros
- Excellent price-to-quality ratio, often called one of the best values in bourbon
- High proof (101) provides a distinct "kick" and prevents it from getting lost in cocktails
- Highly versatile; recommended for neat sipping, highballs, and classic cocktails
- Wide availability at most liquor stores
- Consistent savory and bold flavor profile
Cons
- Some users find the profile unrefined or "not that good" compared to more expensive expressions
- Strong competition from other budget-friendly bottles like Old Grand-Dad 114 or Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond
Caveats
- While many consider it a classic, some long-term drinkers feel the quality has shifted over the decades due to production changes
- It is often compared to Buffalo Trace, though it offers a bolder, higher-proof experience
Best for
- Budget-conscious bourbon enthusiasts
- Home bartenders looking for a reliable cocktail base
- Beginners wanting a representative example of a high-proof bourbon
Avoid if
- You prefer a very soft, low-proof, or wheated bourbon profile
- You are looking for a complex, premium sipping experience for a special occasion
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 387 days; however, as bourbon is a stable physical product, the consistency of the feedback remains relevant.

I'll rotate between: Evan Williams BiB, Wild Turkey 101, Early Times BiB, and Old Forester 100.
Been drinking WT101 off and on since the early 2000s and it never was that good.
WT101 has been my primary go-to for over 30 years. It's been the one I could, and can, always count on. Call me a Russell's fan.
right now I'd take Wild Turkey 101 over this Russell's, which is the opposite of where I landed on the neck pour.
Wild Turkey 101 old & new continues to be one of my favorites… and as the Russells create more expressions, I’ve found myself loving that brand more & more!!
This is such a great starter bourbon.
I am landing on a 6.5, which ties it with Wild Turkey 101, a bottle that runs about half the price at MSRP. WT101 is another totally classic bourbon profile, again on the sweeter side, but with some interesting funk that rounds it out. I am honestly more drawn to that.
I can't really find anything that beats it in the price range. It's cheap but doesn't taste cheap to me, it's solid
Agreed. One of the best bottles under $25 of all time. It’s a staple on my shelf.
Value - 10/10. In my humble opinion this is the best bottle of whiskey under $30 in the United States. How this is so cheap is truly mastery by the Russel’s in Kentucky. Just simply geniuses at work. I would never have tried this bourbon. I joined the sub about a year or two ago and this bottle kept being brought up. I gave it a try. I’ve blinded it with several other bourbons. It always performs well. I am never disappointed when I buy Wild Turkey 101.
