I have the P220 2TB and it happens the same as your case. It's just a crap SSD, nothing you can do.

The problem only occurs during heavy write operations in Steam or any kind of installation processes. It starts fine (around 30ms latency), but after a minute of downloading, it "chokes." The response time jumps to 4-5 seconds, and Steam basically drops the disk usage to 1-2 mb/s which makes it longer to download something.
Meanwhile, this Patriot drive has dropped to 62% in just over few years.
Steam download isn’t really heavy writes though. Especially throttled to 5 MB/s or 1 MB/s. To be getting that performance that quickly with 25% free space just doesn’t seem right.
TBW is at 480TB for the 1TB drive...
You can still use it normally and install new games on it. Just have a bit more patients with it. Under heavy load it can get slower, but at 48 its still good.
