A used Optoma/BenQ/Epson shits on any new 1080p projector at this price range and it's not even close.

I would say get a used high quality BenQ or Optoma.
I would see what Optoma or BenQ brands are available used, since they can be fixed later easily, where as the Chinese Amazon brands you just throw them away when something goes wrong.
buying something from from a well-known brand like Benq, Optoma or Epson is usually the better move because if you need to replace the lamp or something it's very easily done.
The optoma you mentioned the lamp will last 5k normal and 5k eco mode. It will be cheaper to run long term than the JVC.
For a few of the confirmed low input lag projectors I know of they were optomas and they were around the $250 USD give or take some money.
As for Optoma's after-sales service — yes, there's some truth to what you've read. It's not known for being great
