Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

TCL is positioned as a high-value disruptor in the display market, frequently praised for offering advanced technologies like MiniLED and innovative panel types at prices significantly lower than premium competitors. While the brand has made major strides in picture processing and gaming performance, it remains a polarizing choice due to inconsistent reports regarding after-sales support and quality control.

Pros

  • Exceptional value for money, often outperforming established brands at much higher price points.
  • Aggressive pricing enabled by in-house panel manufacturing and vertical integration.
  • Strong performance in MiniLED technology, offering high brightness and deep blacks.
  • Significant innovation in panel types, such as WHVA, which addresses traditional VA panel weaknesses.
  • Broad app compatibility through the use of Android/Google TV platforms.

Cons

  • Highly inconsistent after-sales service and customer support responsiveness.
  • Perceived 'panel lottery' where unit-to-unit quality can vary.
  • Reports of software annoyances, including intrusive pop-ups or ads on some smart TV interfaces.
  • Occasional technical quirks with features like eARC audio passthrough.

Caveats

  • Reliability data is mixed; while some users cite low failure rates, others report significant frustration with warranty claims and hardware longevity.
  • The gap in quality between entry-level models and their mid-to-high-range MiniLED sets is substantial.

Best for

  • Budget-conscious buyers who want premium features like MiniLED without the 'big name' markup.
  • Gamers looking for high-performance displays at a lower cost.
  • Bright living rooms where high peak brightness is prioritized over OLED's perfect blacks.

Avoid if

  • Reliable, high-touch customer service is a primary requirement for your purchase.
  • You prefer to avoid the risk of returning a unit due to panel uniformity or quality control issues.

Not only great value, but they also innovate more than the big names. Last I checked it wasn't LG or Samsung who developed WHVA panels, pretty much fixing one of VA's biggest weakness.

AOC, TCL and KTC offer superb value for money. What they offer can usually easily outperform a more established brand's offering at double the price.

Replace them with 2 TCL’s one failed and was replaced under warranty. The main thing to think about is the warranty. I use TCL or Hisense because they have longer warranties in Australia than most other brands.
