Pros

  • MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4
  • Just anecdotal, but I love my MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4. I imagine the Z790 is just as good, but the prices I'm looking at for both are about more than I paid four years ago (DDR4 LGA1700 motherboards are significantly higher in price than the...
  • I have an MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 board (yes the correct motherboard WILL have DDR4 in its name. The regular PRO Z690-A is DDR5). I've been running it with my 12900k (same LGA1700 platform) for just about four years and it has been great.
  • I have a PC that does virtually everything I want it to do. I've recently upgraded the HDD's to SSD's and it has solved all of my performance lag issues.

Cons

  • No overclocking / budget build: PRO Z690-A DDR4
  • If you're wondering, my motherboard is an MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4, and my monitor is a Gigabyte M27Q 170Hz.

I imagine the Z790 is just as good, but the prices I'm looking at for both are about more than I paid four years ago (DDR4 LGA1700 motherboards are significantly higher in price than their DDR5 counterparts at the moment due to the massive demand for DDR4 systems).
