Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi is a popular mid-range AM5 motherboard frequently recommended for gaming builds, particularly those using Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors. While it is praised for its stability with X3D chips and inclusion of an extra 8-pin power connector, it is often viewed as a basic ATX option that lacks the advanced expansion features found on higher-end or newer chipsets.
Pros
- Reliable performance with Ryzen 7800X3D and future-proofing for upcoming AM5 CPUs.
- Includes an additional EPS 8-pin power connector for stable power delivery.
- Frequently available in discounted CPU/RAM bundles, offering good value.
- Generally stable BIOS performance with XMP/EXPO profiles.
Cons
- Limited storage expansion with only two M.2 slots.
- Secondary PCIe x16 slot is limited to 4 lanes and positioned at the very bottom of the board.
- Lacks PCIe 5.0 support, which may limit future high-speed component upgrades.
- Fewer USB ports and regular PCIe slots compared to some competing ATX motherboards.
Caveats
- Some users reported persistent system freezing and instability, even after BIOS updates or RMAs.
- The mATX version of this board is significantly more limited in connectivity and expansion.
Best for
- Standard gaming builds using Ryzen 7000 or 9000 series CPUs.
- Builders looking for a reliable, no-frills ATX motherboard on the AM5 platform.
Avoid if
- You require PCIe 5.0 for next-gen GPUs or SSDs.
- Your build requires more than two M.2 NVMe drives.
- You need high-speed secondary PCIe lanes for capture cards or additional controllers.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~193 days), so confidence is lower for fast-changing hardware specs and current pricing compared to newer B850 boards.

The X3D chips are perfectly fine for editing, but are again optimized for gaming.

Get the CPU/RAM/Motherboard from a combo such as this one, this seems to save you a couple hundred dollars
Is this the MATX version of that mobo? I actually have it, its not bad, but id get a full size one that has 3 M.2 slots, a few more regular pcie slots and 2 more USB ports.
Oh, sorry, I didn't read properly. They should both be fine then, the amd one is a lot better, but both should work great

MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
Your current motherboard is good, it will work with a 7800X3D no worries and will be future proof in the sense that you can upgrade to a 9800X3D or 10000 series AMD processors that are likely to be supported on this board.
The MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard has an additional EPS 8-pin power connector
Technically yes, but the are some problems. The bottom x16 slot will only have 4 pcie lanes available. This is where x670/x870 boards make more sense. The bigger issue is the placement of the second slot, at the very bottom.
