MacBook Pro M5

Pros

• If I could get a monitor that is basically a 32 inch version of the display on my MacBook Pro M5, I would get it in a heartbeat.
• I think the Mac is better hardware, but probably not enough better to take half the RAM and disk.
• I’m currently thinking of: MacBook Pro m5
• I have a MacBook Pro m5 and I use the vivid app to make the screen even brighter so around 1000 I think?
• The Mac is the better choice for build quality and performance - the only downside is it’s a relatively heavy machine. As macOS is Unix-based, I think you’ll find the experience very Linux-like for command line stuff

Cons

• Seems excellent overall, but I’d prefer a larger display. ATAS isn’t natively supported. Concerned about compatibility with some university software.
• I get the appeal, but at the same price the Windows machine has literally double the RAM and storage, and I'd rather have native WSL2/dual-boot flexibility than be locked into macOS.
• As for battery life. If you actually do real software development, then both sucks honestly. I have owned MacBook Air, Pro, all the way from M2 to M5 Max. They are all shit under heavy load. You have to bring a charger.
• I am returning an M5 Macbook Pro I got for $1,749 from BestBuy with their Cyber Monday pricing. Just too good a deal to pass up
• When I use my M5 MacBook Pro outside, the fans do rev up very quickly after a while and the MacBook becomes hot. This isn’t good for the battery (which can degrade very fast) and other components.
