AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Lian Li LANCOOL 217 is highly regarded as a top-tier airflow case, frequently praised for its unique aesthetic featuring wood trim and its massive 170mm front fans. Users report excellent thermal performance out of the box, often noting that additional fans are unnecessary due to the effective stock configuration. It is commonly positioned as a more affordable, high-performance alternative to the Fractal North, offering modern features like back-connect motherboard support and a built-in fan hub.

Pros

  • Exceptional stock cooling performance with massive 170mm front fans.
  • Quiet operation as larger fans can move significant air at lower RPMs.
  • Clean aesthetic with wood accents that competes with more expensive 'boutique' cases.
  • Generous inclusion of 4-5 PWM fans and a built-in ARGB/fan hub.
  • Support for modern motherboard standards, including back-connect designs.
  • Good value for the price compared to competitors like the Fractal North XL.

Cons

  • Reports of potential coil whine from the large 170mm intake fans.
  • Internal space can feel 'snug' when pairing large air coolers with high-end GPUs.

Caveats

  • The standard 217 model typically lacks RGB fans; the 'Infinity' version is required for front-panel RGB.
  • While the front 170mm fans are a highlight, the case is modular enough to fit triple 140mm fans if the stock ones are unsatisfactory.

Best for

  • High-airflow air-cooled builds.
  • Users seeking a wood-accented aesthetic without a premium price tag.
  • Builders using back-connect motherboards.

Avoid if

  • You are extremely sensitive to fan motor noise or potential coil whine.
  • You prefer a dual-tempered glass 'aquarium' style case over a traditional airflow layout.

Now, my 9070xt in a lancool 217 is pretty quiet at full tilt, and under 65 degrees.

nicer options now available in that price range like the Lian Li Lancool 217 and Corsair Frame 4000D RS.

Lian Li Lancool 207 or Lancool 217. They both come with 4-5 fans depending on model. I dont think the normal 217 has RGB fans but the 217 infinity does in the front and they are 170mm so they are massive and it one of the best looking cases out there right now.

I was thinking of reusing my P500a case that's currently setup with 3x corsair QL 140's in the front, one in back and an EK 360 aio up top, maybe at most would change the aio to a newer one. For the case, aesthetics aside, is there any real reason for temps to move to a newer case like the Havn BF360/antec flux pro/lian li 217?

I have a thermalright peerless assassin 120 se and 9070xt sapphire on the b850 gigabyte motherboard inside a LIAN li 217. So very very snug when together.

If you're air cooling, any modern case with some mesh for airflow is totally fine. Lian Li is great for cases and the 217 will treat you very well.

Air cooling (Thermalright Phantom Spirit) and the Lian Li Lancool 217 would be cheaper, but that is obviously not your goal.
