Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Breville Bambino Plus is widely considered a premier entry-level espresso machine, praised for its exceptional value and rapid heat-up time. Users frequently highlight its ability to produce cafe-quality espresso when paired with a high-quality grinder, though many note that its lightweight construction requires physical stabilization when inserting the portafilter. While the automatic milk steaming is a standout feature for convenience, the machine's reliance on plastic internal components and a smaller 54mm portafilter are common points of contention for enthusiasts.

Pros

  • Extremely fast heat-up time, making it ready for use almost instantly
  • Excellent automatic milk steaming/texturing for beginners
  • Compact footprint ideal for small kitchens
  • High value-to-performance ratio when paired with a capable grinder
  • Includes a stainless steel portafilter (unlike the base Bambino)

Cons

  • Machine is too light and often slides or requires a 'chokehold' when locking in the portafilter
  • Small drip tray requires very frequent emptying
  • 54mm portafilter size limits compatibility with standard 58mm accessories
  • Internal plastic components and diffusion plate
  • Can be messy with leaking or 'soggy pucks' after extraction

Caveats

  • Performance is heavily dependent on the quality of the external grinder used
  • Despite fast start-up, users recommend running 'blank' hot water shots to preheat the group head and portafilter
  • Extraction consistency can vary, requiring a learning curve for dialing in beans
  • The 18g dose may be too high for the stock baskets depending on the bean type

Best for

  • Beginners looking for a high-quality entry point into espresso
  • Users with limited counter space
  • People who need a quick morning coffee with minimal wait time

Avoid if

  • You prefer the weight and stability of a heavy, professional-grade machine
  • You are not planning to invest in a high-quality standalone grinder
  • You want a standard 58mm portafilter ecosystem

The bambino with a super nice grinder and good water will shine. Big chance the OP does not even realize the need for a new machine.

I’m still over here with my Bambino Plus. I love the machine, I don’t plan on upgrading until it dies

Parent context: What exactly do you dislike about the Bambino? Reply: I also posted this comment. I just got the bambino two weeks ago so I am still incredible salty and feeling dumb for this lateral move: Never once used the pressurized basket- I would use the baratza or the BBE grinder when I was feeling lazy. I sold my BBE to get a bambino and I fucking hate the bambino compared to BBE. Top doesn’t get hot, doesn’t warm my portafilter, flimsy and plastic feeling compared to the BBE, and the lack of a solenoid valve makes it leak so much after a shot.

The Bambino and Gaggia Classic are both highly moddable, so either would serve you really well. Even if you get to a point where you want something different eventually, they can be upgraded.

The Bambino plus is a great machine for the price. The fast heat up as mentioned is great for an everyday machine. Before work I can get a couple coffees into me within a short amount of time. The auto milk is great too.

There are 2 things that annoy me a little with the machine: 1. The small drip tray. Not a huge issue, but it does take a little away from the ease of the machine. 2. Extractions can be inconsistent.

I drink milk coffee a lot with my regular bambino and find that it’s perfect for milk drinks.
