Kanosuke is always excellent to my tastes. The 2023 release on the end there was a lightly peated release and was quite unique and memorable.
The Kanosuke is really good too but it has a sweet flavor I'm not familiar with.
I am a huge fan of Kanosuke and I've had a few bars mention that their new 2024 Japan-Exclusive offering distilled at their Hioki Distillery is like they take on bourbon through japanese whisky (It is still 100% barley though).
As someone who drinks shochu, I pretty easily pick up the shochu influence in Kannosuke's malts. And while I like both whisky and shochu, I am not sure I appreciate them together, which makes my overall opinion of Kannosuke a little uncertain.
Probably one of the Kanosukes, any 3 of the cheaper ones are all single malts and very delicious.
Kanosuke of course, some Chichibu, old Yamazaki 10, a Hideo Yamaoka bottling of 2005 Ledaig and Spring Bay, which I’ve heard good things about.

I wish I had discovered Kanosuke earlier on. While I am in love with Chichibu like most people in this subreddit, I feel like I spent too much time and money hunting Chichibu bottles and should have focused more on Kanosuke.
The taste is very nice, if a bit young. The floral, fruity and wood notes from the nose are there, with a really nice, rounded malt flavor. But the youth shows with a thinnish mouthfeel, and it's a bit hot for 48% ABV. The malt and the wood are perfectly paired though... nice, but would like to try a version with a little more aging to get the flavors and ABV a bit more integrated.
