Akkeshi is my favourite new-wave Japanese and I suspect once stocks mature might edge out Chichibu
I have a lot of respect for distillers that are mindful in each step of production and Akkeshi seems to be that way (from what little I’ve been able to find about them online).
I tasted a few other Akkeshi offerings here and I found them all to be exceptional. Regrettably I did not make tasting notes but each was unique, while the through line of rich savory flavors behind sweet fruity notes was present in all.
Much better value buying 5-7 bottles of Akkeshi or Nagahama for the same price
I like both Akkeshi and Saburomaru, but Saburomaru has me caught with FOMO. They seem to be experimenting a lot more with each batch compared to Akkeshi.
I would say Saburomaru is aggressive peated whisky while Akkeshi is more precise and balanced.
The latest two Akkeshi bottles were a pleasant find and it was limited to one bottle per person.
Akkeshi and Chichibu are awesome!
But if you want to try some big, bold flavored Japanese whiskies and don't mind spending a fair bit more, anything from Akkeshi or Chichibu will be top tier imho
Chichibu, Akkeshi and Kanosuke were being handled by the same booth. ... There's also a few of Kanosuke's more basic offerings, as well as the whole Akkeshi lineup.
