Going with an ultra 9 295K over a 9800x3D was a choice that I wouldn't have made
Ye, but to be fair the nm decrease from 4770K to 10875H is substantial compared to 10875H to Ultra 9 285K perse.
However, I have recently been reading a lot about Ryzen CPUs getting cooked by asrock and now asus boards and had my concerns about the complexity of the 9950x3d chips and people having issues with the core parking etc, so I started considering more seriously the intel 285k and a Z890M board.
The 285k absolutely crushes CPU bound games. Sure it doesn't give the GPU as big of a boost with its cache like the x3d does but saying "it's still OK" is just misleading. It's a top chip and performs better than OK.
Long story short, I've seen it perform better in editing, and I do a lot of editing and rendering, while in gaming, in 1440p and in 4K it's on par with AMD, it has an edge in 1080p but I won't be using that resolution. so Intel gives me an advanrage here.

Like I said, this is support making a conclusion based on there public docs. The problem is that they haven't released any docs that documents whether the CPU has Intel Processor Trace, hence my post. Their docs are incomplete.
I've seen some insane deals with Mobos, AIOs, RAM included for 265 and 285ks.
you could go with an Intel 285k, which would save you a lot of money to splurge on your other components especially if you get it on a bundle(happens all the time with these CPUs). It'll perform the same or even a little better compared to 9900/9950x in your workloads.
