I found a 14900kf + Z790 TUF D4 for 450$ (brand new because Im not interested in buying a degraded CPU). I understand I would be leaving some performance on the table by sticking with DDR4, but is it worth it to buy and throw those in if I'm going to be ripping out all my fans and MOBO anyways to install new AIO/case fans?

I got an Asus prime Z790-P wifi motherboard and an i9 14900kf cpu.
14700kf and 14900kf is only viable if you want every little performance in competitive 1080p or lower res gameplay.
The TUF Z690 Plus D4 technically supports 14th gen via BIOS but it was not designed for it and the VRM is not rated for the power demands of the 14900KF. That chip defaults to extremely aggressive power limits out of the box, well above what most mid-range Z690 boards can consistently deliver.
hi guys, i just did a cinebench multiple core stress test for my new i9 14900kf. now i read a couple times that it should definitly reach 40k + but i dont know if that is true. so thats why im asking, is my score to low?
The power consumption and heat of Intel's top level components like 14900K are very high, not worth for your usage scenario outlined nor is overclocking a factor for top end SKU at all unless for your personal enjoyment and you realize you're over spending on every component for basically no real world improvements.
I don't think I can recommend the 14900k/f at the moment as its not just a bad value but extremely hot and well there are better choices.
I'm also about to get the 14900kf in a couple weeks from amazon (new). Used is too risky especially because you can't refund whereas amazon you can test it brand new and then if theres something going on you just refund it and buy another one. It's not worth it to buy used just to save on a couple dozen bucks.
