Intel Core i7-11700F
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Intel Core i7-11700F is primarily regarded as a practical 'end-of-life' upgrade for users already committed to the LGA 1200 motherboard platform. While it provides a significant performance boost over 10th-gen i5 processors and enables PCIe 4.0, its performance is often compared to the mid-range Ryzen 5 5600X. It is frequently recommended as a better value and easier-to-cool alternative to the 11th-gen i9, though users note it can bottleneck high-end modern GPUs in CPU-intensive scenarios.
Pros
- Cost-effective 'final upgrade' for existing Intel 400/500 series motherboards
- Enables PCIe 4.0 support on compatible systems
- Significantly better value and easier to cool than the i9-11900K
- Capable of high frame rates (e.g., 240fps in CS2) with proper optimization
- Performance can be boosted to near-K levels by removing power limits in BIOS
Cons
- Potential to bottleneck high-end GPUs like the RTX 3070 or 5070 Ti
- Used market prices can sometimes be high relative to the performance gain
- Default 65W power limit can be restrictive without manual BIOS adjustments
- Lacks integrated graphics (F-suffix), requiring a dedicated GPU
Caveats
- Requires a BIOS update on many motherboards before swapping from a 10th-gen CPU
- Performance is roughly equivalent to a Ryzen 5 5600X, which may be cheaper on other platforms
- Stuttering reported in heavy productivity tasks like 3D rendering or video editing if cooling is insufficient
Best for
- Users on 10th or 11th gen Intel motherboards wanting a final CPU boost without a platform change
- Budget-conscious gaming builds using used hardware
- 1440p or 4K gaming where CPU bottlenecks are less frequent
Avoid if
- Building a brand-new system from scratch (modern platforms offer better longevity)
- Pairing with flagship GPUs for high-refresh 1080p gaming
- You require integrated graphics for troubleshooting or office work

I will tell you from personal experience, I have an i7-11700 + RTX 5070 Ti The i7-11700 is similar to the 5600x in performance, and the 5070 Ti is similar to the 9070 XT. I do get bottlenecks in many games even at 4K (with upscaling)
Could also consider upgrading to i7-11700 if you can find one cheap.
With an Intel, check the socket it uses, I will probably be something like i7-11700 or something, but I would suggest, instead changing the cpu, consider upgrading the gpu
That's perfectly normal and in fact your 11700 scores at the higher end, as a score of between 7000-8000 is to be expected for that CPU.
An i7 11700 you can get for ~~$160 on eBay or an i5 11600K for ~~$140, those would be massive upgrades from what you have now.
If you still did want to do a hardware upgrade anyways then you could get a used i5-11600K/KF or i7-11700/F/K/KF and that would be the close to the best gaming performance you could get on your current motherboard from the CPU.
I don't want to swap the motherboard, and I have air cooling. i was thinking of buying an i7 11700f. Is this worth doing?
In a lot of these cases, it’s not worth paying the crazy value old i7s hold for the performance increase. You’re better off saving that money towards a proper modern setup upgrade.
11700 is still a good cpu, I would just do the GPU upgrade for now and hold onto that and hopefully ride out the ram-pocalypse.
