I think Iberia's minconnect through MAD does not take luggage (or at least that particular airport's ability to transfer luggage)into account.
Iberia's policy is to not through-check luggage on separate tickets. And while I, too, have never waited more than 15 mins or so for exit passport control, there are plenty of stories of 90+ minute waits at random times.
No worry, I assume it is in a single ticket with Iberia so your bags will go straight to Granada.
To make matters worse, Iberia later claimed that the situation was entirely our fault, arguing that we should have checked the name on the boarding pass more carefully, despite the fact that the issue originated from their own system and was acknowledged as such by their staff.
There was no assistance from Iberia, no rebooking support, no accountability, we were completely on our own to fix the situation.
