Pros

  • A few years back I got *Half-Life:Alyx* to run playably at minimum graphics using an i7-3770k and an RX580 on a motherboard that proudly advertised how it was "Windows 8 Ready", link-cabled to a Quest 1.
  • CPU: Look for an i7-3770K. It is literally the best chip you can fit in that socket.
  • If your board supports it, the best you can do for only a cpu swap is the i7-3770K.

Cons

  • Really big bottleneck, you can try to find an i7 3770k used, but you could also start over with am4 and like a r5 3600
  • going to switch from a i7-3770k to a ryzen 5600, did anyone do a similar upgrade and how was the performance difference ?
  • Your CPU and mobo are gonna be the biggest bottlenecks here - that's a 10+ year old platform on DDR3.
