Gloomhaven
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Gloomhaven is a highly acclaimed, massive dungeon-crawling campaign game known for its deep, deterministic combat and intricate world-building. While many users praise its rewarding gameplay and structured enemy AI, it is equally famous for its "fiddly" setup, enormous physical footprint, and a steep learning curve that can make it difficult to get to the table regularly.
Pros
- Deep, rewarding dungeon-crawling mechanics
- Predictable and well-defined enemy AI movement
- Tight, puzzle-like deterministic combat that rewards strategy over luck
- Extensive campaign content with a high degree of replayability
Cons
- Massive physical size and weight (described as needing to be "forklift certified")
- Long, tedious setup and teardown times
- Highly restrictive and complex combat system compared to traditional RPGs
- Reports of component quality issues in some batches, such as warped boards
Caveats
- The PC version is frequently recommended as a way to enjoy the system without the physical management
- Gloomhaven 2nd Edition is often suggested as the preferred entry point for new players
- Balance can feel skewed in 2-player sessions compared to larger groups
Best for
- Dedicated gaming groups with a consistent schedule
- Fans of heavy, strategic co-op games
- Players who prefer tactical puzzles over luck-based dice rolls
Avoid if
- You have limited storage or table space
- You prefer the "fast and loose" feel of D&D-style combat
- You lack a consistent group to commit to a long-term campaign

I’m a Gloomhaven player that dabbles in other games from time to time.
They played Gloomhaven (but never mentioned the name or showed the box) and talked about the rules and aspects of a game in a dialogue right. In couple of scenes the game components were laying in a right realistic way on the table like in the middle of a real session in Gloomhaven. I was so impressed by this.

We ignored her petulant whining, but it was hard to ignore when she puked all over another guys new Gloomhaven game.
I like the Gloomhaven world and especially the gameplay.
Gloomhaven played on a table far too small.
the biggest draw for me is it it made Gloomhaven easier to play
the original first edition Gloomhaven is less like this but I’ve been playing Frosthaven and you add rule stickers to the rule book and permanently open a lot more things, I could see myself being able to “reset” the original
Gloomhaven and Descent. My friends right now are all rules light players.
the fact that I loved Jaws of the Lion and that I found a brand new 2nd edition at 120€ made me ignore most of your suggestions
