Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite is generally well-regarded as a robust motherboard for high-end builds and workstations. Users frequently highlight its strong power delivery (16+2+2 VRM) and future-proofing features like WiFi 7. While its aesthetics and performance are praised, some users debate its value compared to more affordable B850 alternatives.

Pros

  • Strong 16+2+2 VRM power delivery suitable for heavy workloads and high-end CPUs like the 9950X
  • Includes WiFi 7 with MLO for improved stability
  • Considered aesthetically superior to many B850 alternatives
  • Good connectivity options, including improved USB support

Cons

  • Incompatible with M.2 SATA SSDs (NVMe only)
  • Price premium over B850 boards is a point of debate for budget-conscious builders

Caveats

  • Ensure any M.2 storage used is NVMe-based, as users have reported compatibility issues with M.2 SATA drives
  • The value proposition depends on whether you specifically need the X870 chipset features over the B850

Best for

  • Workstation builds requiring stable power delivery
  • Users planning to upgrade to high-end future CPUs
  • Builders wanting WiFi 7 support

Avoid if

  • You are planning to reuse older M.2 SATA SSDs
  • You are on a strict budget where a B850 motherboard provides sufficient features

I think aesthetically the X870 beats the B850 by a long shot.

I Would Go For The GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE (So You Can Upgrade Your CPU To A Higher End One Later)

Aorus Elite, I use it with a 9950X in my workstation build. The VRM is the best in its price range (16+2+2) and easily handles heavy workloads. You won’t have any problems in the future.

The ASUS board is ok, but the X870 is clearly going to be better Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite + 16+2+2 VRM vs 8+2+1 VRM + 1 M.2 slot + better USB connections (not going to look, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't true) + WIFI7 (has MLO so it's more stable) Whether or not the X870 Gigabyte Aorus Elite is worth the extra $80 is debatable, but it's certainly better

Out of those, I’d personally get the B850 Gigabyte Aorus Elite (I own the X870 Aorus Elite)

I accidentally bought a M.2 SATA SSD for my GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE motherboard. They are not compatible.
