Gigabyte B850 GAMING WIFI6
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Gigabyte B850 GAMING WIFI6 is a budget-oriented AM5 motherboard recognized for its value, offering PCIe 5.0 support and three M.2 slots at a competitive price point. While it covers the essentials for a modern build, it makes several compromises in build features and networking speeds compared to slightly more expensive alternatives.
Pros
- Competitive pricing, often cited around $177 or €150
- Includes three M.2 slots for storage expansion
- Supports PCIe 5.0
- Decent overall I/O and feature set for the price
Cons
- Lacks integrated NVMe heatsinks on the motherboard
- Limited to 1Gb Ethernet, whereas competitors may offer 2.5Gb or 5Gb
- Onboard audio is considered entry-level
- Reported 150W power limit may impact high-end CPU performance
- Features Wi-Fi 6 instead of the newer Wi-Fi 7 found on some rival boards
Caveats
- Users recommend purchasing an SSD with a pre-installed heatsink or buying a separate heatsink since the board does not include them
- Mixed sentiment regarding reliability, with some users reporting the need for RMAs
- The manual primarily focuses on DDR5 support, which is standard for this platform but noted by users
Best for
- Budget-conscious AM5 system builds
- Users who prioritize having multiple M.2 slots over high-speed networking
- Builders using SSDs that already include their own heatsinks
Avoid if
- You require high-speed wired networking (2.5Gb or 5Gb Ethernet)
- You are planning to use a high-TDP processor that might be constrained by a 150W power limit
- You want the latest Wi-Fi 7 connectivity

Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 GAMING WIFI6
my friend said that the gigabyte b850 gaming wifi6 would be a good motherboard for it but the reviews seem mixed. The price is good but i don't mind spending a bit more on a motherboard in order to get the best out of it and every component.
Assuming you're talking about the Gigabyte B850 Gaming Wifi6... nothing strikes me as being a bad option here. It also depends on the price for which you got it and the other options in the area. Like, in the US, I'm seeing that board selling for $177. There's other boards that I would prefer for the same money or less, but we're talking pretty mild details here. If you've already ordered it, I'm not seeing anything to really worry about. It does appear that the NVMe ports don't come with heatsinks, so you'll want to make sure you order an SSD with a heatsink, or buy a cheap heatsink to use with whatever unit you end up using.
Maybe something like the [Gigabyte B850 GAMING WIF16](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/3f8Pxr/gigabyte-b850-gaming-wifi6-atx-am5-motherboard-b850-gaming-wifi6) is a great value woth decent IO and features though the on board audio is entry level if thay matters.
I tried looking in the Mainboard manual, but only DDR5 is listed?
