Cons

  • For gaming Gen5 is a pointless waste of money, with the potential to half the PCI-E lanes of your GPU, depending on the mainboard.
  • and even before the shortage a Gen 5 SSD wasn't worth it, and with the SSD shortage it's even less worth it now.
  • So in a way, yes, *every* Gen 5 SSD is a SLC NAND flash SSD, and most also have DRAM. ... The real question is, why do you want a Gen 5 SLC SSD at all? What benefit are you expecting to get out of it? If you're entranced by its high spee...
  • Gen 5 drives require much more cooling of the drive, and there's a greater risk the SSD will fry itself with gen 5.
  • I am unable to find one in Gen 5 so I am split between a 2 TB Gen 4 and 1 TB Gen 5.

So in a way, yes, *every* Gen 5 SSD is a SLC NAND flash SSD, and most also have DRAM. ... The real question is, why do you want a Gen 5 SLC SSD at all? What benefit are you expecting to get out of it? If you're entranced by its high speeds ... know those are almost entirely fictional in the real world, and most real world use cases Gen 5 SSDs don't see performance better than Gen 4 or even Gen 3 drives.

Dont bother with gen 5, you wont notice the difference in speed, it will just cost more and run hotter.
