Pros

  • FreeFileSync was great for my backups.
  • Solution verified. It was extremely fast at comparing and backing up.
  • While not technically a "backup program," FreeFileSync may be able to do something close to what you're looking for. You can use it to mirror files from one path/drive to another. It also has the ability to do versioning.
  • On top of all my redundancy, I still keep a 24TB External in my fire safe that I pull out once a week and run FreeFileSync on all my hosted service content. I then safely put it back in cold storage. Simple, effective, might work in yo...
  • Would freefilesync work for your purpose? I use it with task scheduler.

Cons

  • The UI for FreeFileSync is pretty ugly, but it's hardly more than a few clicks to find the source and target folder, compare, and mirror.
  • You can sync iCloud to Onedrive via a syncing app like freefilesync on mac/windows if you want to, though.
  • I use FreeFileSync to backup and run it manually from the Synology NAS to a Mac mini.
  • There is software called FreeFileSync.

On top of all my redundancy, I still keep a 24TB External in my fire safe that I pull out once a week and run FreeFileSync on all my hosted service content. I then safely put it back in cold storage. Simple, effective, might work in your use case without a ton of effort.

the least expensive solution is two identical external drives of sufficient size and use a copy program (like FreeFileSync) to keep them synchronized.

Nightly, I would mount Vol2, run Freefilesync as an admin and mirror the contents of Volume 1 -> Volume 2.
