Etihad Airways
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Etihad Airways is frequently described as having a 'split personality': while the on-board flight experience and safety are generally well-regarded, the airline's customer service and administrative policies are widely criticized as hostile and rigid. Recent sentiment suggests a decline in service quality compared to regional competitors, with users reporting significant friction regarding refunds, baggage issues, and unexpected fees.
Pros
- Reliable flight operations and safety standards
- Strong route coverage and service quality for travel to India
- On-plane 'hard product' (seats/amenities) is generally considered good
- Occasional flexibility for rebooking during major regional disruptions
Cons
- Customer service is frequently described as 'trash,' 'hostile,' or unresponsive
- Rigid and anti-customer policies regarding refunds and itinerary changes
- Reports of double-charging and difficult chargeback processes
- Persistent issues with lost baggage and poor follow-up communication
- Inconsistent aircraft quality on certain routes
Caveats
- Users suggest that legal threats or formal claims (like CEDR) are often necessary to resolve customer service disputes
- Extra baggage fees are significantly higher when paid at the airport versus online
- Aircraft quality can vary; some segments may use less appealing aircraft than the flagship fleet
Best for
- Travelers prioritizing route coverage to Asia and India
- Passengers who value the in-flight experience over administrative support
Avoid if
- You require flexible booking or dependable customer support for disruptions
- You want to avoid potential administrative hurdles with refunds or baggage claims

And Etihad.
Frankly, I would first call etihad and explain the situation. Your contract with them sets out what they must do, not what they can do. It is possible, perhaps 50:50 that given the circumstances and that they know very well that they may cancel the flight, that they give you a refund.
No, it's more than 14 days out and mainly, Etihad did not cause the war.
Flying Etihad will be fine as long as the airline is operating. You do not need to do your own safety assessment.
Etihad will not allow me to cancel for a full refund at this time, March 1. They have cancelled all flights up to only March 3.
Now they have updated: 1. Guests holding Etihad tickets issued on or before 28 February 2026, with original travel dates up to 21 March 2026, may rebook free of charge onto Etihad-operated flights up to 15 May 2026.
dude that's absolutely infuriating, etihad has been giving people nightmares with lost baggage lately. after 28 days they're supposed to automatically escalate it but sounds like they're just hoping you'll give up and go away.
Both Emirates and Etihad started flying (very limited) this evening- getting people out of Dubai and AD.
Etihad customer service is awful. Some of my least favorite people to do business with.
Faced similar issues last week trying to use them to fly to the US during the winter storm. There was a cancellation (understandable) and they insisted on charging fees for every change we had to make to fix the itinerary (which they broke) - I relented and paid the $30 fee twice because the alternative was not getting home.
