Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Look into a used Lelit or ECM much better temp stability than the Dedica and great value around €600.
  • I feel ECM is premium quality and parts.
  • I would personally prefer an ECM or Profitec over this new Magister offering.
  • No milk? Definitely go with a single boiler. Ecm, Quick Mill and Bezzera all have e61 options.
  • Disappointing considering literally all existing manufacturers (like Breville, ECM, Rocket, La Marzocco, Decent, etc) generally have really good after care.

Cons

  • An E61 like the ECM has a much higher ceiling, but the learning curve is steeper and slower. It gives you more control and feedback, but it expects more from you too.
  • What about an E61 (Bezzera , La Pavoni, ECM ) for the machine
  • ECM and Profitec are like Acura and Honda, respectively. Same company and production lines (mostly, some ECM stuff is made in Germany, some in Italy; and I believe all Profitec are assembled in Italy). Profitec is a bit cheaper, ECM has...
  • I found some great deal online for second hand HX E61 machines, either ECM or Profitec

ECM and Profitec are like Acura and Honda, respectively. Same company and production lines (mostly, some ECM stuff is made in Germany, some in Italy; and I believe all Profitec are assembled in Italy). Profitec is a bit cheaper, ECM has some fancier finishes, but internals are largely the same

brands like ecm, profitec, etc will typically give you better build quality and longevity. They also will not use plastic parts in the internals.
