Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • The only other cheaper worthy machine is the gaggia. ... if your budget is around $1,000 then you want to get the gaggia and a good grinder.
  • The Gaggia is such a great machine for the price. And then all the capable mods can put it on another level.
  • I have the Gaggia, can't imagine needing to upgrade anytime soon. Bought it a few years back for my b-day, did the usual upgrades (spring, low tray, etc no pid tho).
  • You could get the same Varia and a Gaggia for less.
  • I was in a Gaggia group and with the price <$500 I thought it’s sensible.

Cons

  • Rancilio Silva and Gaggia for example require heating times and time between pulling shots or switching between shots and steam wand.
  • You are in breville or gaggia territory imo.
  • In all honesty I don’t understand why anyone is recommending Gaggias at this point, they were outdated and overpriced half a decade ago.
  • Something to note with the Gaggia will be that it takes a while to heat up, something like the Bambino (and a decent grinder) would be a good starter option for a quick and decent brew
  • Have you thought about a Gaggia or a Legato/Apex?
