Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Crucial T705 is recognized as a high-end PCIe 5.0 SSD that offers a significant performance leap over previous generations. Reddit users frequently highlight its strong value proposition, noting that it often retails for less than flagship PCIe 4.0 drives like the Samsung 990 Pro while providing superior speeds and including DRAM.

Pros

  • Top-tier PCIe 5.0 performance with significantly faster speeds than Gen 4 drives
  • Often priced competitively, sometimes costing $100-$200 less than high-end competitors
  • Includes DRAM, which aids in sustained performance and reliability
  • Considered one of the best Gen 5 SSD options currently on the market

Cons

  • High thermal output requires a dedicated heatsink or robust cooling solution
  • Premium pricing compared to standard PCIe 4.0 storage
  • Limited performance gains for users without specific high-bandwidth needs

Caveats

  • Performance is capped at PCIe 4.0 speeds if used in a Gen 4 motherboard slot
  • Pricing and value fluctuate heavily based on regional discounts and sales

Best for

  • Enthusiast builds with PCIe 5.0 compatible motherboards
  • Users looking for flagship Gen 5 performance at a better price-to-performance ratio than Samsung alternatives
  • Workloads that benefit from maximum sequential read/write speeds

Avoid if

  • You are using a motherboard that only supports PCIe 4.0 or older
  • You lack a proper M.2 heatsink or adequate case airflow
  • You are looking for the most budget-friendly storage option for gaming

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 201 days, which may affect the relevance of specific price comparisons in the fast-changing SSD market.

Id suggest the 7800x3d or 9850x3d on either an MSI or Gigabyte b850 motherboard. 32gb ddr5 minimum and 64gb would probably be better. getting a ssd like the Crucial t705 or samsung 990.

Depending on where you are and the day of the week, a Samsung 990 Evo Plus, Lexar NM790, Seagate FireCuda 540, or Crucial T705 might all be much less expensive.
