AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Corsair SF850 (2024) is widely regarded by the Reddit community as a top-tier SFX power supply, frequently cited for its 80+ Platinum efficiency and A+ ranking on enthusiast tier lists. While it is praised for its compact size and cool operation, users frequently highlight that the cables are exceptionally stiff, which can make cable management challenging in small form factor builds.

Pros

  • Ranked as A+ Tier on enthusiast PSU tier lists
  • 80+ Platinum certified efficiency in a compact SFX form factor
  • Runs cool and quiet even under load
  • High perceived build quality compared to competitors

Cons

  • Included cables are very stiff, complicating routing in tight spaces
  • Higher price point than comparable ATX power supplies
  • Cables may be too short for some larger or non-standard case layouts

Caveats

  • Cable management is noted as the most difficult aspect of installation due to cable rigidity.

Best for

  • Small form factor (SFF) and Mini-ITX builds
  • High-end midrange GPU configurations
  • Users prioritizing top-tier component reliability

Avoid if

  • Building in a standard ATX case where cheaper full-sized alternatives like the RM850x fit
  • You require highly flexible cables for extremely cramped enclosures

850W for higher midrange GPUs sounds perfect just about now.

I'd go with the Asrock board. They're a sister company of ASUS, though they run independently. Asrock are generally some of the best bang for the buck motherboards on the market. They've been a pariah within AMD builds lately due to some issues with high CPU failure rates on Ryzen X3D CPUs, but before that they were generally my go to suggestion for people and they're still excellent options for Intel.
