I just had a stopover in Panama, and it was simple and easy to connect. It's one of the most connected airports in LATAM and Copa has a lot of flights daily.
I also enjoyed this trip because it was easy getting there, Copa Airlines has four flights a day from where I live making the flight options easy to work with my schedule. It was my first time flying them and both flights were very good.
I'll try calling them, I would have done that already but figured the chance of me getting a customer service rep who understands the issue that I'm describing is pretty low.
I want the 1:01pm flight from Guatemala to Panama, and the 12:06pm flight from Panama to Peru, 3 days later. However, it won't allow me to book those flights.
If I take the 1:01pm from Guatemala to Panama, then the earliest flight from Panama to Peru I can book departs at 8:05pm, and I'd need to book the 4:24am flight from Guatemala to be able to book the 12:06pm flight to Peru, which makes no sense to me.

Copa's latest gimmick is they switched my confirmed, paid for economy ticket with additional seat purchases on both outbound flights from FLL to PTY and return flights to a STANDBY flight. They told me I had to pay an additional $152 per person to covert the STANDBY flight to a confirmed flight which I already had proof that I had when I bought my original tickets in December 2025. Total SCAM.
BEWARE if you purchase Economy Basic and don’t purchase your seats! Our trip going to Costa Rica was fine- they assigned us seats together on both segments of the journey. On our return, however, I tried to check in online and the app said “check in pending ”. In the SJO airport in the morning, 3 hours prior to our return flight- the Copa agent directed us to the kiosk print our boarding passes. The first flight to Panama, we had seats assigned, but no seat assignment on second flight. So went to inquire at the ticket counter. The agent checked her computer, then said she needed to check our carry-on luggage in and we would pick our bags up at baggage claim at our final destination. When we pointed out to her that we didn’t have seat assignments for our second flight from PTY to NAS, she told us that she couldn’t assign us seats on that flight and we would need to talk to the Copa gate agent in Panama. She said that Copa routinely overbooks the flights and we would be put on standby for our second flight and there was a possibility that we may get bumped and have to spend the night in Panama! (Without our luggage that they insisted they needed to check in)
Copa Airlines website is very buggy to book the multi city route, it timed out or errored out all the times.
