Computer Case

PC cases are viewed by the community as a balance between aesthetics, noise management, and thermal performance. While premium cases often provide tighter tolerances that reduce noise, users frequently warn that a high price tag does not guarantee superior airflow. There is a strong consensus that builders should prioritize spending on core components like the GPU and CPU before investing in an expensive case, as functional and high-airflow options are available at much lower price points.
Pros
- Higher-end cases with tighter tolerances can significantly reduce system noise
- Many budget-friendly cases include multiple pre-installed fans, offering high value
- Generally durable and easy to maintain or clean
- A new case is considered one of the best ways to make a PC feel like a completely new setup
Cons
- Price is not a reliable indicator of thermal performance; some expensive cases have poor airflow
- Cheap cases may use sub-par materials that produce a strong 'factory smell'
- Poorly ventilated designs can lead to component overheating and thermal throttling
- Mechanical failures, such as power buttons breaking over time, can occur
Caveats
- Airflow performance varies wildly between models; specific research is required regardless of price tier
- Cases are typically grounded through the power supply, but static electricity issues are still reported
- Non-standard internal layouts in some systems may require custom manufacturing to fit into a new case
Best for
- Builders looking to customize the aesthetic 'look' of their setup
- Users prioritizing a quiet computing environment through high-quality construction
- Budget builders who can find models with included fans to save on cooling costs
Avoid if
- You have not yet maximized your budget for critical performance components like the GPU
- The specific model has documented poor air circulation or 'butt' ventilation
- You are attempting to migrate a non-standard or proprietary pre-built system
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 211 days, which is acceptable for stable hardware categories like PC cases but may not reflect the very latest model releases.

the vast majority of cases and ventilation systems for PC's are extremely sub-par and use highly thermally conductive materials, this heat is focused on the 4 legs to create thermal shock points on the glass. This has happened with my own PC …
This has happened with my own PC where iv lifted it just after iv turned it off on my laminate floor and the shock points on the floor have almost been painfully hot.
In my experience, spending more money on a case that has tighter tolerances will do more than anything to keep a computer quiet.
cases and coolers can turn into a “because it looks cool” spend.
most cases are on feet as well to allow airflow under them. it's really not a problem
Also if you have pets at home, I'd pay attention to the materials, some new cheap cases have a strong smell of factory.
Case dosn't affect much, it's mostly for aesthetics and noise. Of course, if you buy a better PC case with a good airflow, your components will be less hot, but like 3-5 degrees, it's not much influence. But some cheap cases also have a good airflow, it's not always about the price. There are a lot of 200$ cases with a terrible airflow.

i had a case a while back that got old and the button didn't work anymore to turn it on, but if i used a screw driver to attach the power prongs on the motherboard it would boot, so yea, could def be the case
Yeah i mean, i might as well just sell this pc later on and get some extra cash and just rebuild completely since even the case is like mehh. Its some Shop branded case and its mATX
