Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

ColourPop is recognized as a high-volume, budget-friendly makeup brand frequently praised for its affordability and packaging quality relative to price. However, community sentiment is currently mixed, with significant criticism directed at its rapid-fire release schedule, repetitive color stories, and increasingly inaccurate digital swatches.

Pros

  • Excellent value for money, often providing identical shades to high-end brands at a fraction of the cost
  • Superior packaging for the price point, including sturdy cardboard palettes and mirrors
  • Reliable staple products like foundations and themed eyeshadow palettes
  • Successful mystery boxes and diverse pop-culture collaborations

Cons

  • Extreme 'release fatigue' due to an overwhelming frequency of new product launches
  • Inaccurate or 'copy-pasted' digital swatches that do not represent actual product colors
  • Frequent use of 'crunchy' pressed glitters that users find uncomfortable or unsafe for the eye area
  • Perceived decline in formula quality as the brand focuses more on licensed IP collaborations
  • Repetitive shade ranges that often feel like recycled colors in new packaging

Caveats

  • International availability is often limited, with some regions lacking the full product catalog and shade ranges
  • The brand has faced backlash regarding its social media management and choice of collaborators

Best for

  • Budget-conscious makeup enthusiasts
  • Fans of pop-culture collaborations (e.g., Disney, Star Wars, Twilight)
  • Users looking for affordable alternatives to high-end eyeshadow palettes

Avoid if

  • You rely heavily on online swatches for accurate color matching
  • You have a sensitivity to or dislike for pressed glitters in eyeshadow palettes
  • You prefer a curated, slower-paced release cycle from beauty brands

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 18-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~563 days), which may impact relevance for this fast-changing brand's most recent releases.

In my country, colourpop and essence still don't have their entire product catalogue here. Most of their products aren't available and even if they are, the shade range is extremely limited.

Totally valid, colourpop has also taken a pretty noticeable quality hit since they started launching a palette with every Disney IP in the universe. Like why are you trying to sell me your 12th Star Wars palette…fix your formula

The thing about that is that her products are still effectively identical to colourpop’s products even after KC split from the same manufacturer as colourpop. I can’t justify giving her any coin when A. She’s a loser in my opinion and B. I can get identical products for cheaper.
