Pros
- But you're just spewing nonsense if you think it's metrics don't pick up a reasonable signal of what good skiing is.
- Just got back from a week using Carv every day and can honestly say that it has helped me a great deal. ... when using headphones to give you real time feedback on your turns it was super beneficial for me and helped me to visibly improv...
- I found it very useful. I’m skiing with CARV since my second ever ski trip. I found the drills most helpful in particular - I enjoyed the ones where you have to lift one ski when turning, the parallel turn drill, and also later the drill...
- Yes. I really like carve.
Cons
- I had two ski instructors at big ski schools tell the same thing. And I’ll trust their analysis and knowledge of skiing in general and definitely of my skiing over a hyped up AI nonsense.
- You definitely don’t need Carv.
- Carv is a novelty all at best. I ski to get away from stuff like this.
- Carv screams either a lack of understanding of skiing or a lack of understanding of machine learning. ... The moment those artificial simplifications are stripped off (i.e., off piste, less than groomed slopes, soft snow, etc.) I really...
- As a lifelong skier, Carv is gimmicky nonsense unless you're a high level skier, and at that point, your coaches and video review are going to be way more useful anyway.

I found it very useful. I’m skiing with CARV since my second ever ski trip. I found the drills most helpful in particular - I enjoyed the ones where you have to lift one ski when turning, the parallel turn drill, and also later the drill that tells you to reach a certain edge angle.
Carv screams either a lack of understanding of skiing or a lack of understanding of machine learning. ... The moment those artificial simplifications are stripped off (i.e., off piste, less than groomed slopes, soft snow, etc.) I really can't see it working.
As a lifelong skier, Carv is gimmicky nonsense unless you're a high level skier, and at that point, your coaches and video review are going to be way more useful anyway.
Parent context: Used it for about a week recently (exclusively on groomers, so Carv’s strongest suit) and I can’t say it’s helped much. On one hand I feel like I understand certain concepts better but my ski IQ just kinda stayed at the 105-115 range. Reply: I gave up when it consistently gave me higher scores the faster I went, and when my best ever score came from a run where I hit a bit of crud wrong, got bounced into the back seat, and only barely managed to save it by the skin of my teeth.

Reply: I’m a shit skiier and I know it but all it did was make me confused on what I should do. And confirm that I’m a shit skiier ... Would not recommend to a beginner AT ALL.
