ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI is a premium AM5 motherboard recognized for its robust power delivery and cutting-edge connectivity, including WiFi 7 and USB4. However, it is frequently described by the community as 'overkill' for most users, with many suggesting that cheaper B-series boards offer better value for standard gaming builds.
Pros
- Robust 18+2+2 power stage (110A) and excellent VRM cooling
- Dual USB4 (40Gbps) ports on the back panel
- Support for up to five M.2 SSD slots
- Integrated WiFi 7 and Bluetooth support
- Extensive PCIe 5.0 support for future-proofing
Cons
- High price point that many users find difficult to justify
- Populating M.2 slots 2 or 3 cuts the GPU bandwidth in half
- Reports of stability issues, including DRAM indicator lights and BIOS flashback failures
Caveats
- The 'future-proofing' benefits of the X870E chipset are debated, as many features remain unused by average consumers
- Users must be aware of the lane-sharing quirk where specific M.2 configurations impact PCIe slot performance
Best for
- High-end heavy-duty workstations
- Enthusiasts requiring maximum M.2 storage and USB4 connectivity
- Users building top-tier AM5 systems where budget is not a primary concern
Avoid if
- You are an average gamer who would be better served by a more affordable B850 motherboard
- You require full GPU bandwidth while simultaneously using all available M.2 slots
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age of ~196 days), which is significant for PC hardware; users should verify if recent BIOS updates have addressed reported stability issues.

ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi
I personally wouldn’t go with an X motherboard, the b series is more than enough with lots of features. Unless you need the faster pcie lanes for a specific task I don’t see the benefit.
I upgraded the mb in the MC bundle to the Asus ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI. This is a very robust mb with incredible VRMs, two USB4 (40Gbps) ports on the back panel, great audio, five m.2 SSD slots, WiFi 7 and Bluetooth.
$370 for a mobo, 64gb ram, but a 1tb ssd? Te idea of future proofing isn’t real.
ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi- Best for high-end, heavy-duty workstations. It features an 18+2+2 power stage (110A), robust VRM cooling, Wi-Fi 7, and excellent PCIe 5.0 support.
Anyway, my vote is on the ASUS ROG STRIX board because screw MSI and their tomahawk line and I keep reading ASROCK sucks.
Motherboard is completely overkill for no reason
Spend half as much on a B850 board.
Is there a specific feature of the X870E chipset that you need that isn't available on a cheaper B850 motherboard?
