AMD X3D CPU
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
AMD X3D CPUs are highly regarded as the premier choice for gaming, particularly in CPU-intensive scenarios such as MMOs, strategy games, and competitive esports. The primary benefit cited by users is the 3D V-Cache, which significantly improves 1% low framerates and reduces stuttering, leading to a smoother experience even when average FPS is already high. While they offer a substantial leap for gaming, their value proposition is more debated for high-resolution AAA gaming and professional productivity tasks where high core counts are prioritized over cache.
Pros
- Significant improvement in 1% low framerates and overall smoothness.
- Excellent performance in CPU-bound titles like WoW, Escape from Tarkov, and CS2.
- Less sensitive to high RAM latency (CL) and speeds compared to standard Ryzen chips.
- Top-tier performance for competitive esports and high-refresh-rate gaming.
- Highly efficient for gaming-specific workloads.
Cons
- High current market pricing ($400-$600) makes them a poor value for some users.
- Lower performance in multi-core productivity tasks like 3D modeling compared to high-core-count alternatives.
- Some older models are becoming difficult to find or are out of production.
- Performance benefits are less noticeable in GPU-bound scenarios (e.g., 1440p/4K AAA gaming).
Caveats
- X3D chips may not show their full strength in traditional benchmarks compared to actual in-game framerates.
- The CPUs are designed to boost until they reach thermal limits (up to 95C).
- Upgrading to newer X3D models often requires a full platform change (Motherboard and DDR5 RAM).
- Isolated reports of CPU failures exist, though users generally consider the risk very low and often motherboard-specific.
Best for
- Competitive esports players requiring stable, high FPS.
- Players of simulation, strategy, and MMO games (WoW, Tarkov).
- Users looking for the absolute best gaming performance on the AM4 or AM5 platforms.
Avoid if
- Your primary use case is professional 3D modeling or multi-threaded productivity.
- You play exclusively at 1440p or 4K where the GPU is the primary bottleneck.
- You are on a strict budget and cannot justify the current price premium over standard chips.

If they're going for the 9060 xt I'd also recommend getting an x3d CPU. On paper it doesn't look that much better but for gaming specifically it makes small amounts of ram like 32gb feel so much more efficient.
I play every kind of game, thats why I got the X3D
If you play very CPU-hungry games, especially competitive esports with very high FPS, or games where a lot happens at the same time (Cyberpunk, big RPGs, strategy games, simulations, huge open worlds), the X3D is the better choice because of smoother 1% lows and fewer FPS drops.
But just look into x3d CPUs. Those are the best I think.
That said, the x3d cache will generally be better for strategy games and games that are cpu-limited. It will have lower 1% lows on esports games as well. If you play AAA games at 1440p, i don't think the x3d will offer significant benefits, though it does have some still.
It’s generally better to go with AMD if you care about absolute gaming performance, especially the X3D CPUs.
Look for a reasonably priced X3D
For gaming x3d are way better (especially at 1080p) evena 7500x3d will outperform a 9900x in 99% of scenarios.
I would not recommend the x3d chips for OP's specific use case. They are into 3d modeling so having more cores will actually be better over the 3d cache.
The X3D chips are now also $400-600 and absolutely not worth it at all
