Pros

  • if you're already changing the board and want to reuse ram, why not go AMD if you can find a Ryzen 5000 X3D chip. Those are known to be good for gaming.
  • Best upgrade for gaming would be to get any of the 5000X3D series: 5500X3D, 5600X3D, 5700X3D or 5800X3D. These ones are as fast as early AM5 CPUs, really, really good stuff for simulators and games in general.
  • 5000X3D or Intel's 12th Gen would be the only DDR4 upgrades I'd consider, imo.
  • One of the 5000X3Ds would be the only CPUs worth upgrading if you want to keep your mobo and RAM.

Cons

  • your best upgrade, while using DDR4 would be a 5000x3d but they're hard to find on the used market for a good price.
  • I've been looking for a 5000x3d for 2 months now and the price is just egregious.
