AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The AMD Ryzen 5 5600G is a budget-friendly APU that serves as a bridge for users needing a functional system without a dedicated graphics card. While it is praised for its value in ultra-budget and HTPC builds, it is frequently criticized for significant performance trade-offs, specifically its halved L3 cache (16MB) and lack of PCIe 4.0 support compared to the standard Ryzen 5 5600.
Pros
- Provides a functional gaming experience for older or less demanding titles without a dedicated GPU
- Excellent value for budget-conscious builders, especially when found at low prices on the used market
- Reliable performance for HTPC (Home Theater PC) use cases over long periods
- Allows users to build a working PC immediately while saving up for a dedicated graphics card
Cons
- Significantly reduced L3 cache (16MB) compared to the 5600/5600X, leading to CPU bottlenecks in gaming
- Integrated graphics (Vega) are underpowered for modern AAA titles, comparable to an entry-level GTX 750 Ti
- Limited to PCIe 3.0, which can restrict the speeds of modern NVMe SSDs and high-end GPUs
- Integrated GPU performance is heavily dependent on and limited by system RAM
Caveats
- Gaming performance is often compared to the older Ryzen 3600 rather than other Zen 3 processors
- Users report noticeable bottlenecks when pairing this CPU with mid-to-high-end GPUs like the RTX 3080 or RX 7800XT
- Integrated graphics may struggle to maintain high frame rates even in esports titles like CS2 or LoL during intensive moments
Best for
- Ultra-budget builds where a dedicated GPU is not immediately affordable
- Home Theater PCs (HTPCs) and general office productivity
- Users upgrading from much older APUs like the Ryzen 3400G
Avoid if
- You already own or are buying a dedicated graphics card (the 5600 or 5600X are better options)
- You require PCIe 4.0 support for high-speed storage or modern GPU bandwidth
- Your primary goal is playing modern AAA games at high settings

A 5600g runs like $150-$200 and is fairly comparable to an often bundled 5500 which is comparable to a $60 3600.
I'm aware 5600g is a bottleneck for 3080, but at such level? There's no reason at all this combo should be dropping to below 100FPS during fights/camera movement in LoL and couldn't dip below 60FPS on any settings in Arc Raiders.
The 5600G indicates this is a CPU with integrated graphics, but its graphics performance is roughly equivalent to a GTX 750 Ti. It can handle older or less demanding games, but it won't be powerful enough for modern titles.
for $278 this is actually pretty solid ngl. budget builds are all about getting something usable without overspending and you did that.
Integrated GPUs suck. Seriously, the 5600g iGPU is like a GTX 560. Beyond that, iGPUs use your system ram which really kills you.
5600G is shit cpu only 16mb l3cache , get 5600x or 5700x
I would also like to second the earlier commenter's opinion on the 5600G versus the 3400G. If you can tolerate saving up for a while longer, I would suggest buying the RAM and storage devices *now* as prices still appear to be climbing, at least here in the western part of the world. Then, after saving up, buy the 5600G later. It will be markedly better performance than the aging 3400G.
A word of warning - my 5600G was bottlenecking my RX7800XT in most scenarios. So probably you won't get full performance out of a RX9070XT with that CPU in most games.
The integrated graphics on it are no good for games, unless you are playing really old ones like Fallout 3 or something
you can get 5600Gs on EBay for dirt cheap
