Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The AMD Ryzen 5 3500X is an entry-level, 6-core processor primarily found in budget or used builds. While it remains a viable option for low-cost 1080p gaming in older titles, users increasingly report that it serves as a significant bottleneck for modern mid-to-high-end GPUs. Performance is described as mixed, with some users maintaining playable frame rates in titles like Warzone, while others experience stutters and high CPU utilization in more recent or poorly optimized games.

Pros

  • Extremely affordable on the used market, with listings seen around £44
  • Capable of maintaining 85-90 FPS in titles like COD Warzone at 1080p when paired with mid-range GPUs
  • Suitable for ultra-budget builds where every dollar counts

Cons

  • Lacks SMT (6 cores, 6 threads), leading to high CPU usage and stutters in modern games
  • Significant bottleneck for newer GPUs like the RTX 3060 or higher
  • Reports of performance issues and FPS drops below 60 in titles like League of Legends when paired with entry-level modern cards

Caveats

  • A large portion of community discussion for this model name actually refers to the Corsair 3500X PC case, not the AMD CPU
  • Performance varies wildly depending on the specific game's CPU intensity

Best for

  • Ultra-budget used gaming builds
  • Secondary PCs for light eSports titles
  • Users upgrading older AM4 systems on a very tight budget

Avoid if

  • You are pairing it with a high-end GPU (e.g., RTX 3070 or better)
  • You play CPU-intensive modern titles that benefit from multi-threading
  • You want a future-proof gaming platform

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 190 days, and is heavily diluted by mentions of a PC case sharing the same model number.

This one is $550 on eBay with a 3500x and 6600, could offer them $450 and if they accept it'd be $500 after taxes, just check eBay, they have some good deals and good buyer protection

My current build is a Ryzen 5 3500X paired with an RTX 3050 OC and 16GB of RAM. Despite this, I’m experiencing significant FPS drops in League of Legends, sometimes falling below 60 FPS.

You can easily swap the case for either of the Corsair 4000D or 3500X. It is just personal preference and maybe some front IO differences.
