AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The AMD Radeon RX 6000 series is widely regarded as a strong mid-range value option, particularly praised for its longevity due to high VRAM capacities on models like the RX 6800. While it remains a viable choice for budget-conscious builders and those looking at the used market, it faces increasing competition from the newer 7000 series which offers better driver support and power efficiency.

Pros

  • Excellent value-to-performance ratio compared to newer generations
  • High VRAM (up to 16GB on some models) provides better longevity for modern games
  • Solid mid-range performance for users not prioritizing the latest hardware
  • Includes ray-tracing capability required by some recent titles

Cons

  • Weak ray-tracing performance compared to competitors
  • Diminishing driver support and optimization relative to the RX 7000 series
  • Less efficient power reporting; software may report significantly higher power draw than newer cards

Caveats

  • The performance gap between the 6000 and 7000 series is reportedly widening due to newer driver updates favoring the latest architecture
  • Software power reporting on this series may be less accurate or higher than total board power reported by newer series

Best for

  • Budget-conscious gaming builds
  • Users seeking high VRAM for long-term viability
  • The used GPU market where prices are highly competitive

Avoid if

  • High-end ray-tracing performance is a primary requirement
  • You want the most up-to-date driver optimizations and software features
  • Maximum power efficiency is a major concern

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~188 days), which may impact the relevance of performance comparisons for fast-changing hardware like GPUs.

I'd recommend looking at the RX5000 series or RTX2000 series if you wanna set aside more resources for RAM. Both are still viable with some smart frame gen, though the RX6000 and RTX3000 line are the more solid mid-range choice.

If you are thinking of buying a GPU it would be best, if possible, to get something that has ray-tracing capability. Some recent games require this capacity. That's the NVidia RTX series, AMD RX 6000 series and above or Intel Arc series.

6000 series has less support and capability, is now worse than similar 7000 series by a large margin due to driver updates, and software power reporting is 50w or so higher on 6000 than 7000 which reports total power so more efficient to boot.

rx 6000 is better value than rx 7000. They tend to have bett longevity because the rx6800 had 16gb of vram. That be said they're pretty weak at ray tracing. If you don't care about RT, they can be ok.

Honestly, id look for a cheap used rx 6000 serues card or a cheap 1080. The 1080 and 1080ti still kick some serious ass and are way cheaper than a 5060 ti.

With this price point i would look for an am4 motherboard with pref. 32gb ddr4 with an r5 6800 or lower series cpu. And then as gpu something like an used or new amd rx 6000/7000 series card or if you have some money left an 9060 xt.
