- RX 470, 480, 570, 580 Any of the 4 that OP can get his hands on. Preferably one of the 8GB models. Price/performance they beat anything else as ultra budget cards.

Oh yeah that's a big upgrade.
For AMD probably like the RX 480/580, or possibly the r9 series.
My first 8GB card was the RX 480 back in 2016. 1080P Ultra games back then used maybe 4-5GB of VRAM max, and over time that gew.
