AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) is viewed as a significant evolutionary step for AMD's upscaling technology, with users noting substantial improvements over FSR 1 and 3. While some enthusiasts find its quality and frame generation capabilities to be nearly on par with DLSS in specific titles, the prevailing sentiment remains that it lags behind NVIDIA's solution in image clarity, motion stability, and broad game library support.

Pros

  • Substantial improvement in image quality compared to FSR 1 and 3
  • INT8 mode provides better quality than previous 'Quality' presets at the same performance level
  • Frame generation is considered effective and 'worthwhile' in well-implemented titles
  • Competitive performance on newer AMD 9000 series hardware

Cons

  • Generally perceived as inferior to DLSS 4/4.5 in terms of raw image quality and artifact reduction
  • Noticeable issues with blurriness, smearing, and ghosting in motion for some users
  • Significantly smaller library of supported games compared to DLSS
  • Reported lack of support for the Vulkan API
  • Performance and quality may degrade when Ray Tracing is enabled

Caveats

  • Implementation quality varies wildly between different game engines and titles
  • Some users report that certain FSR 4 features are locked to newer AMD 9000 series GPUs
  • Opinions on visual 'tolerability' are highly subjective, ranging from 'just as good' to a 'blurry mess'

Best for

  • Owners of AMD 9000 series graphics cards
  • Gamers looking for a viable upscaling alternative on non-NVIDIA hardware
  • Titles with strong native implementations like Ghost of Tsushima

Avoid if

  • Maximum image clarity and lack of motion artifacts are your primary concerns
  • You primarily play games utilizing the Vulkan API
  • You require the widest possible compatibility across the largest number of modern games

While with the 9070 you're stuck with Fsr 4.

AMD sucks at implementing their newest tech in more games. FSR 4 doesn’t support Vulkan yet.

DLSS slaps compared to FSR, used both recently on a 6700XT and then a 5070ti

I personally don't even like upscaling because I can see some of the texture issues and smearing with FSR, so I don't use that or framegen.

FSR 4 is not [in most games].

I would stick with 4070Ti Super for DLSS though. It is better than FSR. No shade to amd card, but DLSS can be a lifesaver to some games.

fsr4 int8 balanced mode is better than fsr3 quality and they produce the same fps,it is a no brainer

Also if GTA 6 coming out I'd rather get a PS5 and upgrade later. Like I said it's fine for most games 😭 hate that I can't play cyberpunk maxed out with raytracing for example. I played on GeForce now for a while and it was amazing playing cyberpunk maxed out, but screw Nvidia and their business practices. I also try not to use fsr, I notice everything and it looks not so good to me.

Native, fsr, and fidelity cas use the forced aa the game engine uses.

Tried the 9070 xt on the same settings except on fsr4 and it was noticeably more blurry and less clear. I don’t know if yall knew that there is an issue with fidelity cas being extremely blurry in motion after the bo7 warzone integration.
