Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Alienware AW2725DM is generally regarded as a high-value, budget-friendly 1440p IPS monitor that offers strong color performance and a 180Hz refresh rate. While it is praised for its build quality and color accuracy (95% DCI-P3), users frequently report issues with IPS glow and sluggish firmware behavior when waking from sleep or switching display modes.

Pros

  • Excellent color reproduction and brightness for the price point
  • Smooth 180Hz motion handling and reliable G-Sync performance
  • Solid build quality with a fully adjustable stand
  • High value-to-performance ratio, often cited around the $180-$220 range
  • Responsive performance on the 'Super Fast' setting

Cons

  • Significant IPS glow, especially noticeable at high brightness or off-angles
  • Slow wake-up times and delays when exiting full-screen games or switching refresh rates
  • Inverse ghosting occurs on the 'Extreme' (1ms) response time setting
  • Underwhelming HDR 400 performance

Caveats

  • Users recommend using the 'Super Fast' (2ms) setting rather than 'Extreme' to avoid visual artifacts
  • Some community sentiment suggests this model may be a downgrade in certain aspects compared to the previous AW2724DM
  • IPS glow levels can vary significantly between individual units

Best for

  • Budget-conscious gamers seeking a 1440p high-refresh-rate display
  • Users who prioritize color accuracy over HDR capabilities
  • General daytime gaming and productivity

Avoid if

  • You are highly sensitive to IPS glow or backlight bleed
  • You require a monitor with fast wake-up and mode-switching times
  • You are looking for a meaningful HDR experience

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~288 days) and comes primarily from a limited number of subreddits, so confidence is medium for this fast-changing hardware category.

Definitely recommend for the beautiful colours and brightness. You can't really expect " true hdr " from a hdr 400 monitor but it really does the job . If you are getting it for $190 , it's definitely worth it .

i have the same monitor but ips glow isn't that bad unless you are at 100 percent brightness

The Good The monitor has good colors being dci-p3 95% it shows. Best response time is on "Super Fast" there's inverse ghosting on extreme, which sucks since that's the 1ms time setting with Super Fast being 2ms. I still find it responsive with the 2ms option. It gets plenty bright for daytime use. Settings for the display is good, no problem messing with the settings. The Bad IPS Glow is bad on this monitor. I noticed it a lot and now with a different IPS monitor I can tell that the Alienware just had bad glow. It bugs the eye a lot and viewing from an angle even with room light on I could still see it a bit.
