Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The EVGA 3080 FTW3 10GB is regarded as a durable and high-performing GPU that remains relevant several years after its release. While the 10GB VRAM capacity was a point of concern at launch, many users report it still handles modern titles well. However, the card is known for specific thermal behaviors like high hotspot temperatures and occasional coil whine.

Pros

  • Strong long-term performance, with users reporting excellent results after 5 years of use
  • 10GB VRAM remains sufficient for many current gaming scenarios despite early skepticism
  • High build quality associated with the EVGA FTW3 line

Cons

  • Prone to high hotspot temperature spikes (up to 105°C reported)
  • Reports of persistent coil whine even under moderate loads
  • Susceptible to CPU bottlenecking at 1080p or 1440p low settings when paired with older processors

Caveats

  • Used market listings may occasionally feature mismatched hardware, such as 3080 coolers on 3090 boards
  • High hotspot temperatures may persist without repasting, though some users report stability regardless
  • Performance in newer, unoptimized titles can vary significantly depending on CPU overhead

Best for

  • 1440p gaming
  • Users looking for high-quality used hardware from the Ampere generation
  • EVGA brand enthusiasts

Avoid if

  • You are sensitive to coil whine
  • You require more than 10GB of VRAM for 4K gaming or professional workloads
  • You are pairing it with an older CPU that may cause significant bottlenecking

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~202 days), which is significant for fast-changing hardware like GPUs.

My 3080FE has been doing that for 5 years out of the box and performs extremely well.

My 3080 FE had coilwhine since release and now I have a 5090 FE and have coilwhine even at a low 100W load.

I have a 3080fe with 10gb of vram and people were already saying that it wasn’t enough 4 years ago but I’m yet to run into any problems.

My 3080 FTW3 has always had hotspot spikes up to 105 C. I've been using it for 5 years without repasting.

10700k was slow enough to bottleneck my 3080 at 1440p low settings with at most 85% GPU usage.

Only the AIO and motherboard were lit up, and the fans spun with no light. There was zero output to my monitor.

My htpc is running the same cpu. I have a cheap 3080 fe in it.

EVGA 3080 FTW3 replaced Zotac 5070 TI

So far I've only tried arc raiders and that's severely underperforming. No matter the settings I'm getting 50-70 FPS. GPU usage hovers at around 50% to 60% and CPU is at around 70 to 80%. 1080p.

I have a line on a used EVGA 3080 FTW3, but some weird stuff in the listing. Photos show a 3080 LED bar, but checking the serial and product codes, it shows that they belong to a 3090.
