The Zooz stuff is so frequently "half off" that it seems more like normal price, and if it is not you should wait and not buy it. Their regular prices are totally out of control!
Inovelli, Hue, Zooz, Aqara all have switches that you can put into decoupled/"smart bulb" mode and it doesn't actually switch the power, it just acts as a smart switch
Also Zooz (as an example) has a 5 year warranty on all products.
Yes, I looked at the Lutron and some other brand zooz or something. The price for one is like the price of 4 at these companies. Moreover, they also require a central hub which is an added cost!
I personally am a big fan of Zooz. Very solid and long battery life.

I second the idea for lutron caseta and pico remotes. No wiring required for picos and you can get mounts/plates that make it look like a standard wall switch.
I hear good things about Caseta. Maybe it's time i give it a try.
Lighting, Philips Hue and/or Lutron Caseta if you want the best control.
I use Lutron Caseta switches for overhead lighting such as this (really anything with a wall switch), and Hue for lamps.
I can understand the contractor not wanting to use Caseta close to the device limit, in the end they have to support it and it might require some creativity to make it work (and risk for them).
