But from Ljubljana you can do Bled, you can do Bohinj, you can do Postojna + Predjama. All of it is amazing.

Also, as a general suggestion, look for accommodation in Bohinj instead of Bled and Cavtat instead of Dubrovnik. Way easier on the huge crowds and equally huge prices.

It is nice to stay in Bohinj for a couple of days. From there, you can do a hut-to-hut hike, or you can be stationed in Bohinj and do 1 day hikes. Bohinj/Bled It is a very good starting point for hiking, as you can see here: [https://www.altitude-activities.com/mountaineering]

You could easily do 10-14 days just in Slovenia. Ljubljana as a base, day trips to Bled and Bohinj, few days in the Soča Valley, maybe Piran on the coast if you want something different.

Brasov is highly recommended by travelers as the premier base for exploring the Transylvania region, valued for its charming old town and strategic location near major landmarks like Bran Castle. While described as a 'sleepy' and quiet city, it is praised for its beauty, affordability, and scenic surroundings, though some visitors find the internal city activities limited.

Pros

  • Ideal central hub for day trips to nearby castles and historic towns like Sibiu and Sighisoara
  • Picturesque old town featuring a variety of quality restaurants and bars
  • Scenic train access from Bucharest, particularly the final hour of the journey
  • Affordable travel destination compared to Western European cities

Cons

  • Atmosphere can be very quiet or 'sleepy' for those seeking high energy
  • Hiking trails, such as the path to the city sign, can become muddy and unusable in poor weather
  • Train connections from Bucharest are subject to occasional delays

I couldn't find much to do in Brasov. Thought there would be lots of hiking but the trail up to the sign overlooking the town was very muddy and slippery, so I gave up.

Brasov is where you should spend most of your time. Everything else is a day at best.

If you really have to stick to two bases, make them Brasov and Sibiu.

The nearby main railway line goes through Gorna Ohreovitsa, take the train to Bucharest then take the train to Brasov in Transylvania, visit Bram castle..
