I couldn't find much to do in Brasov. Thought there would be lots of hiking but the trail up to the sign overlooking the town was very muddy and slippery, so I gave up.
Brasov is where you should spend most of your time. Everything else is a day at best.
If you really have to stick to two bases, make them Brasov and Sibiu.
You could spend the night in Brasov though, it's a nice city to visit.
The nearby main railway line goes through Gorna Ohreovitsa, take the train to Bucharest then take the train to Brasov in Transylvania, visit Bram castle..
Brasov is great, but also explore Sibiu, Sighisoara, plenty of small to medium sized towns you can visit or base out of.
BY FAR Brasov is better.
While Brasov is more sleepy, it was genuinely my favorite city.
If Transylvania is the goal of the trip, Braşov is the right place to start it.
Braşov is better located for the first days.
