Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is widely regarded as the "gold standard" utility for completely removing graphics drivers. It is the go-to recommendation for users switching between GPU brands (Nvidia to AMD or vice versa) and for troubleshooting persistent issues like black screens, BSODs, or driver conflicts that standard uninstallers fail to resolve.

Pros

  • Effectively removes all driver remnants and registry traces that standard uninstallers leave behind.
  • Highly effective at resolving driver-related stability issues, such as black screens and BSODs.
  • Essential tool for switching GPU manufacturers to prevent software conflicts.
  • Helps fix specific display bugs like incorrect native resolution or refresh rate limits.

Cons

  • Some users report technical hurdles, such as options being greyed out in certain configurations.
  • The process can be intimidating for novice users unfamiliar with system-level maintenance.

If you are using a different gpu in the new rig, you will need to use DDU in safe mode to wipe the drivers for your old gpu before you install the drivers for your new gpu.

Download Display Driver Uninstaller, and uninstall your AMD drivers (not always necessary, but good practice).

FanControl is a highly recommended open-source utility for managing PC fan speeds and custom curves within Windows. It is frequently cited as a superior, lightweight alternative to BIOS-based controls and bloated motherboard software, offering advanced features like hybrid curves that can respond to multiple temperature sensors simultaneously.

Pros

  • Extremely lightweight with minimal system resource usage
  • Allows for hybrid curves where fans respond to the highest value of multiple sensors (e.g., CPU and GPU)
  • Portable version available that requires no formal installation
  • More convenient than BIOS for making real-time adjustments without rebooting

Cons

  • Initial setup and interface can be unintuitive for new users
  • Software-based control means it must be running in the background to maintain custom curves
  • Does not resolve physical hardware noise issues if fans are inherently loud at low RPMs
